THE BARCELONA

Originally built in 1874 the Barcelona first served as the home to Mr. Henry Ball of New York. Though the building stood at the corner of Carrera and Sevilla streets as the Barcelona, the home originally stood at Valencia and Sevilla, but was later moved by Henry Flagler.

Flagler purchased the home in 1885 and it was moved that same year. When the house became a hotel it was owned by Henry Flagler, but there is no record of the hotel actually belonging to Flagler. The business was a successful venture though, with enough room to comfortable welcome 70 guests, the Barcelona was a modern house providing all of the finest amenities for those who stopped there.

The Barcelona remained standing until 1962 when the house was razed. All that is left today is the parking lot for the Ancient City Baptist Church, which lies directly across the street.
