The Gilded Age: A Tale of Yesterday
Saint Augustine, Florida in the age of gold.
SEAVEY HOUSE
What is known to the students of Flagler College as nothing more than the business and financial services office has quite an interesting past that is not often discussed.
This Gilded Age victorian dwelling stands on the corner of Valencia Street and Sevilla Street beside Lewis Hall, across the street from the Protor Library and Memorial Presbyterian Church. James McGuire and Joseph McDonald, builders of the Ponce de Leon Hotel built this house, which served as the residence for the manager of the Ponce, Osborn Dunlap Seavey.
The house was later occupied by General John Schofield and General Matin Hardin respectively, two Civil War Generals. Until the college purchased the Seavey House in the 70s and renovated the house in the 80s, it had been used as a place for people to temporarily rent rooms.
