The Gilded Age: A Tale of Yesterday
Saint Augustine, Florida in the age of gold.
HOTEL BUCKINGHAM
The Hotel Buckingham originally served as an office for the Buckingham Smith Association. Following Smith's passing the building was remodeled and opened as the Hotel Buckingham in 1895.
Located within the heart of St. Augustine's tourism district, the Buckingham was surrounded by Henry Flagler's Hotels, the Granada, and Villa Zorayda. Truly a marvel in its day the Buckingham reportedly provided guests with electricity, baths, and fireplaces. The hotel exchanged hands many times, and had several proprietors during its run.
The Hotel Buckingham was officially closed in 1964, today the Flagler College Gymnasium stands where the Buckingham once welcomed its guests.
