CASA MONICA HOTEL (ALCAZAR ANNEX)

The Casa Monica Hotel was constructed by Franklin W. Smith, a famed victorian architect and millionaire. This Moorish revival meets Spanish Baroque revival building was a poured concrete structure similar to Smith's other building, the Villa Zorayda, and rivaled hotels created  by Henry Flagler himself.

After completing the building, Smith ran into a bout of financial problems and was forced to sell the hotel. Henry Flagler purchased it to add to his other two hotels (the Ponce de Leon and Alcazar hotels) and renamed it the Cordova Hotel. It remained a hotel until 1902.

Having changed its name to the Cordova Hotel, Alcazar Annex, and at one time St. Augustine City Hall, the Casa Monica is the only remaining hotel in service today. Located on King street the Casa Monica is across the street from the Pell Horse Fountain, Post Office Park Fountain, as well as the Henry Flagler hotels.
